Exercises I Actually Like

Actually, I received a link to a news story -- called "Jailhouse Rock Hard" -- that I thought actually had a point.

You don't NEED anything to get and stay fit, except determination and effort.

No weights, no gym, just regular exercise. Body weight will only take you so far, but it's further than where I am now.

So, obviously, there are NO excuses. And here I am, starting over again. But not from scratch, that's something. I want to be clear about goals and stick to them this time -- I tend to change them based entirely on my mood in a given day. My goals in order of importance are to become: 1. lean; 2.flexible; 3. strong.

Of course, I'd like to be able to hang with the Big Boys, but I think I have to be realistic. Lose the excess weight, dammit. I'll feel better, look better, live longer. Get and STAY flexible: ditto. Stronger, yes, but I think that comes last in line because the excess weight and stiffness keep me from getting anywhere with the heavy weights.

That said: I still want the experience I've had just once -- after deadlifting. Endorphins, I suppose. I walked out of an intense (for me) session and five minutes later, I thought I could climb Everest. Amazing feeling. And slept like a log, too. Granted that was with a trainer pushing me, but it's a goal for a bit down the road. I really, really want that feeling again.

So, I went back to instructions P. gave me back in 2009 -- core activation, rehab work on my shoulders, rowing, and stretching. Today wasn't brilliant, but I managed to stick with it for an hour (with breaks to pant). Forgot to bring gloves and water. Will remember next session.
